To try to provide information and to better understand the estuaries value for wading birds the Humber Wader Ringing Group (HWRG) was formed. The formation of the group and its aims and strategy were developed through consultation with various interested parties. Out of the steering group, consisting of representatives from the Environment Agency, English Nature, The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, the Institute of Estuarine and Coastal Studies (based at the University of Hull) the HWRG was formed.
